Building a Stronger Future for Women

The History and Purpose of Women’s Sheds in Australia

Women’s Sheds have emerged across Australia as safe, welcoming spaces where women can gather to learn new skills, support each other, and build a sense of community. Inspired by the success of Men’s Sheds, these spaces are designed to empower women by providing hands-on learning experiences in DIY, trade skills, and personal development.

The Australian Women’s Shed movement is dedicated to addressing gender disparities in skill-based education, offering opportunities for women to gain independence and confidence in traditionally male-dominated areas such as woodworking, home maintenance, and mechanical repairs. These Sheds also serve as social hubs, reducing isolation and promoting mental well-being through shared learning and connection.

By establishing the Women’s Shed Geraldton, we aim to bring these same benefits to our local community, creating an inclusive and supportive space where women can thrive.
